11 Batman Villains Who Deserve a Great Movie

Less Joker, more of these guys.

Is there any superhero with a larger and more memorable rogues gallery than Batman? Even after nine live-action Batman movies (not including the old movie serials!), it feels like Hollywood has barely scratched the surface with this massive lineup of villains. And in some cases, the movies haven’t exactly done these villains justice.

We’ve been thinking about Batman and his villains again lately not just because Justice League[2] is about to hit theaters, but also in the wake of the recent report that The Raid filmmaker Gareth Evans may direct a standalone Deathstroke movie[3]. So let’s take a look at 11 iconic Batman villains who deserve a great movie, whether said movie serves as their big screen debut or a shot at cinematic redemption… It won’t be long before Batman returns to the big screen, as Ben Affleck is set to reprise the role in Justice League alongside Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman and ray Fisher’s Cyborg.

The film will also induct another major Batman character into the DCEU as J.K. Simmons makes his debut as Commissioner Gordon. Unfortunately, the future of the Batman franchise is a bit murkier after that.

Rumors persist that Affleck may be hanging up the cape and cowl[4] after Justice League, even though Affleck recently denied them at Comic-Con[5]. Regardless of what happens with The Batman, Warners still has a variety of other DCEU spinoffs in different stages of development, including Joss Whedon’s Batgirl and a Harley Quinn/Joker movie[6]. The studio has also teased a standalone Joker origin movie[7] set outside DCEU continuity.
