Battlerite Getting Top-Down Battle Royale Mode

The new mode is coming this summer.

A top-down, “MOBA-like” battle royale mode is coming to Battlerite this summer, developer Stunlock Studios announced today. Called Battlerite Royale, the new mode will retain the free-to-play MOBA’s top-down perspective and take place on a map “30 times larger than the standard arena mode,” according to the announcement. The mode will support free-for-all and duos, with support for up to 20 players.

In addition to the unique perspective, Battlerite Royale mixes up the formula with 27 playable characters, each possessing different abilities and playstyles. A rotating roster of six characters can be used for free, while unlocking additional characters costs in-game currency or real-world money. Alternatively, all characters, both current and future, can be immediately unlocked for £30 USD / EUR28.

While its perspective and character variation set it apart, the goal of Battlerite Royale is like that of any other in the ever-growing genre. The 10-minute match is won by gathering loot and eliminating other players until you’re the last one standing. Battlerite is currently available on PC via Steam.

Windows 10 and Xbox One versions are expected to be released in 2018.

The MOBA earned an 8.2 in IGN’s Battlerite review.
