Netflix Announces New David Letterman Series

The former late-night host returns in 2018.

David Letterman is returning to television for a six-episode Netflix series in 2018. Each hour-long episode of the currently untitled series will feature a long-form interview with a single guest, as well as “in-the-field segments expressing [Letterman’s] curiosity and humor,” according to Netflix.

Letterman as host of CBS’ The Late Show “I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix,” said Letterman. “Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first.

Thanks for watching, drive safely.” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos added: “Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together. David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting.

We’ll have to see if he keeps the beard.” Letterman spent 33 years hosting late-night television (11 on NBC’s Late Night and 22 on CBS’ The Late Show) before announcing his retirement[2] in 2014. The final Late Show with David Letterman[3] aired on May 20, 2015.
