Samus Returns-Themed New 3DS XL System Announced

Game not included.

Nintendo has announced a special “Samus Edition” New 3DS XL system, which will launch alongside Metroid: Samus Returns[2] on September 15. The limited edition system, priced at £200 USD, doesn’t include a copy of the aforementioned 3DS game. Check out the images below to see its stylish design, which features a color scheme reminiscent of the Samus’ iconic suit:

Metroid: Samus Returns is a re-imagining of Metroid II: Return of Samus, which was released for the original Game Boy in 1991.

The game features amiibo support for two brand new amiibo[3], as well the Samus Aran and Zero Suit Samus amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. line. In fact, you’ll need the new squishy Metroid amiibo[4] in order to unlock the game’s “Fusion” difficulty mode. While you patiently wait for the release of developer MercurySteam’s side-scrolling action platformer, read our Metroid: Samus Returns hands-on impressions[5] from San Diego Comic-Con to find out why the game could very well be a worthy followup to Metroid: Zero Mission.
