Stephen King’s Best Movies

You either get busy watchin’ or get busy dyin’.

It’s pretty rare to find a Stephen King story that hasn’t been adapted to film or TV at this point. That’s even more true now that King’s magnum opus The Dark Tower has finally made its way to the big screen. After decades of waiting, fans finally have the chance to see Roland Deschain hunt the Man in Black across that endless desert.

In honor of this major release, we’re spotlighting the twelve best movies based on King’s stories. From The Shining[1] to Carrie to The Green Mile, these are the films any self-respecting King fanatic needs in their library. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that The Dark Tower will be taking its place alongside the greats. Check out our Dark Tower review[2] to find out why it “abandons the nuance and gravity of its source material and all too often lacks any trace of a beating heart.” That doesn’t seem to be slowing progress on the Dark Tower spinoff TV series, which recently gained a showrunner in The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara[3].

The good news is that there are more King adaptations on the way. Warner Bros. has a new adaptation of It hitting theaters on September 8, and Audience will premiere the TV series Mr. Mercedes[4] on August 9.
