Star Wars Series Announced for Disney Streaming Service

Disney’s new streaming service will debut in the US in 2019.

Disney has announced plans to debut a new live-action Star Wars[2] television series on its forthcoming streaming service. Bob Iger, the chairman and CEO of Disney, shared the news during the company’s quarterly earnings call, Variety[3] reports. During the call, Iger also announced that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will create a brand-new trilogy of Star Wars films[4].

In addition to the live-action Star Wars series, the company is also at work on TV shows based on Monsters Inc. and High School Musical, as well as a new original series from Marvel. Back in August, Disney announced plans to launch its own branded streaming service[5]. The service is set to debut in the United States sometime in 2019, with plans to expand worldwide at some point thereafter.
