Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Honor 10 smartphone

We’re close to the release of Honor’s next smartphone, the Honor 10. The successor to the beautiful Honor 9, the Honor 10 is expected to be as powerful, as it is attractive. Honor has been releasing a great many phones over the past months, including the excellent Honor View 10, and we’re excited to see how it updates the Honor 9.

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Honor 10.

If history is an accurate indicator of future events, it’s likely the upcoming Honor 10 will take plenty of design inspiration from the recently released Huawei P20. A selection of photos potentially showing the Honor 10 have been leaked by, demonstrating how colorful the new phone will be. The report talks about a special color scheme that switches between blue and pink, depending on lighting conditions.

It’s reminiscent of Huawei’s twilight color on the P20 Pro.

Alongside the special blue/pink version, images of a lighter blue/green and black Honor 10 were also published. The reflective, light-catching surface on the back continues the theme started with the Honor 9. On the front of the phone, a fingerprint sensor is set in the lower chin, and a notch is cut into the top of the screen.

A dual-lens rear camera is on the back, and in a horizontal position. The renders are likely quite early, due to the “AI Camera” logo opposite the camera lenses. We’d be surprised to see that on the final version.

A previous leaked image from GSMArena also showed what appears to be the Honor 10, but with a few differences. The leaked image shows a dual camera setup — horizontally mounted, rather than vertically — but with rounded sides rather than diamond shaped on the more recent leak. Other text replaces the mention of A.I. camera too.

Since the Huawei P20 features a front-facing fingerprint sensor, we’re expecting something similar on the Honor 10.

Another interesting feature to note is the color of the phone in the leaked image: It looks to be a closer variation of the twilight version of the P20, rather than the blue/pink scheme in the newest leak. We will have to wait until the phone is unveiled to see which is accurate.

When it comes to actual specs on the upcoming Honor 10, it may be similar to the Huawei P20. Multiple leaks suggest the Honor 10 will feature the same Kirin 970 processor found in the new Huawei phones, and the older Mate 10 Pro.

And since the Kirin processor features Huawei’s proprietary Neural Processing Unit (NPU) it’s all but certain the phone will have extensive A.I. features, just like the Honor View 10. In China, where the phone will be announced on April 19, local regulatory body TENAA has certified a series of phones with model numbers linked to the Honor 10. If it’s accurate, the Honor 10 will have a 5.8-inch screen with a 2240 x 1080 pixel resolution, the Kirin 970 processor and either a 4GB/64GB or 6GB/128GB RAM and memory configuration, plus a 3,320mAh battery, dual-SIM, and Android 8.1 Oreo.

Other details listed on the TENAA site include USB Type-C, stereo speakers, NFC, and a fingerprint sensor.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro both feature best-in-class cameras, how will the Honor 10 compare, seeing as it will share some specs and design traits with the Huawei flagship? Leaked images certainly suggest the Honor 10 will feature a dual-camera setup. The TENAA listing states a 16-megapixel camera and 24-megapixel camera on the rear, with a 24-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

Before this, a rumor from GSMArena claimed the Honor 10 would feature a 12-megapixel primary lens as well as a 20-megapixel secondary lens. Honor cameras are not co-engineered by Leica, unlike the cameras on the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro; but the camera software will likely be enhanced with artificial intelligence, including scene recognition, just like on the Honor View 10.
