7 Lesser Known Changes in Fortnite Season 5

Fortnite Season 5 features a number of changes that are both big and small, and this page focuses on the lesser known facts and secrets that you may not have known about.

EditNew Victory Royale Screen

Getting first place just got a little cooler. The Victory Royale banner sports a new look and even comes with a few minor animations in the lighting.

Confetti also rains from the sky above!

Another awesome detail is the moment the final kill is made. For a brief moment, everything will move in slow motion before transitioning to the victory screen.

EditUI Improvements

Notice anything different about the UI both in-game and in the menus? All the moving text and sliders all have a softness to them, an additional smoothness that wasn’t there before.

This happens when you get your XP at the end of the match, when you collect materials, and when progress bars for challenges and your season level increase.

EditMysterious Rifts

A new type of rift has started to appear across specific parts of the map. These rifts aren’t just for show. Once you see one, walk through it to get teleported to another rift that opens up directly above you.

This will allow you to deploy your glider and land safely. If you’re in a vehicle, fall damage will still apply.

These rifts seem to generally appear in areas that were affected by the time traveling shenanigans, meaning you’ll find a lot in the desert area. Once you go through one, that’s it.

It won’t respawn.

EditSave & Exit No More

As outfits and skins continued to get more complicated, Epic initiated a Save & Exit button whenever you go to select a new skin or cosmetic item. What it ultimately ended being was an extra step that felt redundant and was often forgotten, leaving you with the same skin you entered with. With the 5.0 patch, the option is gone and simply selecting the outfit you want will automatically apply it to your character!

EditConsoles: Stay in Your Queue

Before the Season 5 patch, hitting the home button while in a queue would cancel the matchmaking.

A little change reverses this and keeps your queue intact even if the button is hit.

EditMario Kart Mechanics

The All Terrain Kart is the second vehicle added to Fortnite, but this one comes with ability to drift. Not only that, but if you hold your drift long enough, you’ll see blue sparks that will turn into a boost once you let go. Take it a step further and continue to drift for yellow sparks and bigger boost.

Thanks, Mario Kart!

EditUnderwater View

Crouching in water and trying to get a peak underneath the waves always resulted in failure. A hidden change with the Season 5 update is the ability to see through the water if you point your camera below the water level. This will help you gather any loot that falls into ponds at Dusty Divot or Loot Lake, and it’ll also help spot any downed enemies crawling away.

Have you spotted any cool differences that weren’t mentioned in the patch notes or aren’t very well known?
