The Elder Scrolls VI: Release date, trailer and details

Bethesda’s conference at E3 2018 came packed full of surprises, including the announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI. While the announcement we got was very brief in the form of a short teaser video and details about the project, in general, are scarce, we can glean a few bits of information. Watch the announcement trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI above, and carry on reading to find out all we know so far about the game, including a possible release window and early gameplay details.

When will The Elder Scrolls VI be released?

While the announcement came at E3 2018, we sadly won’t be seeing the next Elder Scrolls game for a long time.

Bethesda has said that their newest IP, Starfield, will be released before we see TES VI and that title is still only early in production. Considering the gap between Oblivion and Skyrim was 9 years we probably won’t be seeing TES VI until 2021 at the very earliest, leading gamers around the world to assume that it’ll be a ‘next-gen’ console game. On the upside, we will almost certainly be seeing the game on a new engine in that time so we can hope that the combat will grow to match the quality of the world building and storytelling.

What will The Elder Scrolls VI be called?

While The Elder Scrolls VI has been revealed, we don’t yet know the full name of the upcoming game.

Not officially, anyway, but a recent leak suggests that it may be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Redfall. The leak, first picked up by Newsweek, details a patent for a “computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles” filed by Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media inc. that includes the name Redfall. While companies often trademark random names and ideas for their IP, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that Bethesda has trademarked a title that has been later revealed.

Before the reveal of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Bethesda trademarked the name Skyrim, and keen eyes spotted the trademark created for Starfield prior to the E3 2018 reveal.

So, while it’s not official, it’s as close to an official name as we’re going to get for a while.

Where will The Elder Scrolls VI be set?

We only have a very short trailer to gather details from but the coastline and rocky, broken terrain suggests High Rock or Hammerfell, regions close to Skyrim within the Elder Scroll’s world.

We’ll keep you updated with more information as it becomes available, but I”m afraid you’re going to have to wait for a while before you get a chance to play the next instalment in the Elder Scrolls series.
