Guacamelee! 2 Coming to Nintendo Switch This Year

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is available on Switch today.

The Guacamelee! series is coming to the Nintendo Switch, with Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition available today and Guacamelee!

2 coming later this year. Developer DrinkBox Studios announced today that the pair of games would be hitting the Switch. Guacamelee!

Super Turbo Championship Edition, which includes all of the original game’s DLC as well as a bevy of additional content, is launching today on the Nintendo eShop for £14.99 USD, and Guacamelee!

2 is coming this December. DrinkBox also provided footage for both of the games on Switch, with Guacamelee! STCE receiving an official trailer, and Guacamelee!

2 getting 6 minutes of gameplay. In our review of the original Guacamelee! released for the PS3 and PSVita in 2013, we called the game “Amazing” saying, “Guacamelee! isn’t only pretty to look at, it’s also a hell of a lot of fun to play. Its Metroidvania inspiration is undoubtedly strong, and yet it does so much to help it stand apart, not the least of which by providing gamers with a deceivingly deep combat system and a two-world polarity system that simply makes the experience more dynamic.”

STCE, we once again called the game “Amazing” saying it is essentially a 1.5 version of the original, and called it “a welcome infusion of the original game with new areas, monsters, and bundled-in DLC.” Guacamelee! STCE brought the game to the Wii U, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in 2014. It took another four years for DrinkBox to finish its full-fledged followup, Guacamelee!

2, but it was well worth the wait. In our review of Guacamelee!

2, we called the game “Amazing” saying “It expands on the first’s ideas in so many great ways, and marries a complex but understandable set of moves to both its combat and platforming.” Guacamelee!

2 is currently available for the PC and PS4.
