Note: Once all the original Nintendo Switch models have been sold this “new” model will be the only one available. You will not have to worry about “buying the wrong one” in a few months but this is something to keep in mind if you’re every buying a used Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Switch longer battery release date?[edit]

Originally, this was supposed to come out mid-August 2019 but these started appearing in the US early August 2019. It is available now but you’ll need to make sure you buy the correct model if you’re looking to buy the new switch and not the old one.

How do I know which Nintendo Switch is the “new” model?[edit]

The Nintendo Switch model with the longer battery life is in red packaging, instead of the white box of the original model. The Serial Number also begins with XKW (the original had XAW).

How long does the new Nintendo Switch’s longer battery last?[edit]

The new Nintendo Switch model has a battery life of 4.5 – 9 hours, depending on the game. Below is how it compares to the other Nintendo Switch model and the Nintendo Switch Lite.
