Why The Russos Would’ve Snapped All X-Men Except Wolverine

Even though the X-Men film rights didn’t belong to Marvel Studios when Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame were being made, that doesn’t mean the Russo brothers don’t have any ideas on how things could go down if Marvel’s Merry Mutants were a part of the story. While playing a game on IGN’s Up At Noon show where the Russos were asked to choose who from a group of fictional characters would be dusted by Thanos’ snap, they made an exciting yet tragic choice in regards to the X-Men.After considering who to kill on a team lineup consisting of Gambit, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops and Rogue, director Joe Russo used a marker to strike out everyone on the team except Wolverine.

“I’d love to see a fiercely motivated Wolverine going up against Thanos,” Joe said of his extreme decision. For anyone looking to call him out for not eliminating exactly half of the X-Men, he pointed out how the snap didn’t always evenly halve any given group — like how Hawkeye was the single survivor of his five-person family.

While turning the rest of the X-Men to dust would be upsetting to see, Joe explained, “It’s not our job to give the people what they want, it’s to give them what they need.” And to his point, watching an emotionally devastated Wolverine go full berserk on Thanos with his Adamantium claws is definitely something we need to see.

Other fictional groups put on the chopping Russo’s chopping block included the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Scooby Doo gang, the characters from Friends, the Backstreet Boys, the characters from Arrested Development, and the characters from Community, culminating in an… inspired group of survivors to stand against Thanos.
