How to watch India vs South Africa: Live stream the T20s and Test matches

After winning every completed game against West Indies in the Caribbean recently, India now plays the higher-ranked South Africa, who are aiming to start with a clean sheet after a disastrous ODI World Cup in England.

By all accounts, this should be a more competitive series because South Africa are a much stronger team – at least on paper. India is ranked third in ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, ahead of the Proteas who are ranked fourth. Meanwhile, India is the best Test team in Men’s Test Team Rankings, ahead of South Africa who is third.

South Africa’s biggest challenge is perhaps adapting to the conditions in the Indian sub-continent where foreign teams often take a while to get used to the pitches and conditions. The Proteas are also are fielding a relatively inexperienced squad compared to India. AB de Villiers, Faff du Plessis, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn – veterans who made the team a force to reckon with in years past – are not part of the T20 International squad.

Instead, opening batsman and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock is promoted to captain for the T20 Internationals. The team have yet to announce their Test match squad. After the three T20 Internationals, South Africa will play a three-day non-televised warm-up game against Indian Board President’s XI from 26-28 September to get acclimatised to the conditions before the first test begins on 2 October.

In contrast, India boasts of one of the strongest batting line-ups in the world. Their captain Virat Kohli is one of the very few batsmen who averages over 60 Tests and over 50 in T20 Internationals and one-day internationals. Strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the T20 Internationals so he can be at his lethal best for the Test matches.

The Test series will also see the return of specialist batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who is ranked among the premier Test batsmen in world cricket with Kohli, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and in-form batsman, Shubman Gill. Rohit Sharma has also been recalled to the Test team after his success in the shorter format of the game.
