Update 11/5/19: Players are reporting Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC is suffering from issues that keep it from running properly. A few of the problems include crashes, issues with the Rockstar Game Launcher, and PC performance.

Here are a few ways you can troubleshoot issues with Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC.

Rockstar Game Launcher crashing[edit]

If the Rockstar Game Launcher crashes whenever you go to play the game on PC, the developer’s official support Twitter recommends updating your graphic card drivers and running “RDR2.exe” as an administrator.

You can do this by searching for the above executable, right clicking on it, and clicking “Run as Administator”.

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Performance Issues[edit]

Players suffering from issues with RDR2 PC performance have reported that running the game with Vulcan instead of DirectX 12 may alleviate issues until a patch is pushed through.

Players may also want to consult with Nvidia’s recommended GPUs for 60 FPS gameplay guide. The tech company tested different Nvidia graphics cards to find which would be able to run the game at optimal performance.

Nvidia’s results suggest that in order to run Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1920x1080p, you’re going to need a GeForce RTX 2060. To run it at 2560x1440p then a RTX 2070 SUPER is the suggested GPU.

IGN is currently conducting its own benchmark tests for PC and those results are expected to arrive on 11/8/19. We will update this guide with that information once it’s available.

Activation Required[edit]

Players that are receiving a “Activation Required” screen have reported that signing out and signing back into the Rockstar Game Launcher fixes this issue.
