What build and specs does this instant camera have?

Camera news leaker Nokishita has posted photos of the alleged Fujifilm Instax Square SQ1. The renders show three colour variations: Chalk White, Terracotta Orange and Glacier Blue.

The bright and bold colours are a step away from previous Square Instax cameras, and more reminiscent of what we’ve seen in the Mini range, whilst still looking more refined and suitable for older audiences.

The shape of this camera seems like the SQ6 – sharp corners, with the lens, flash and buttons all seemingly in the same places – if the renders are correct. It looks simple and refined, just as previous Instax cameras have been.

The name of the camera refers to the type of prints that it produces. The Sqaure SQ1 will print on Instax’s Square film, which measures around 62mmx62mm without the border, or 86mmx72mm with it. The Instax Mini range produces smaller-sized prints.

We don’t know yet what type of modes this camera will get – such as selfie, macro, or landscape – nor we do we know if there will be any low-light improvements that we saw on the Mini 11. Once we find out more, we’ll update this article.

When will the Instax Square SQ1 be released?

At the moment, we don’t have a firm release date on when the Instax Square SQ1 will be released. However, Nokishita reported that the camera will be announced “soon” (via Tech Radar), so hopefully we won’t have too wait long.

The last cameras in the Square range to go on sale were the SQ6 and SQ20 in 2018, whilst the last camera launch for Instax took place in March this year with the Instax Mini 11.

How much will the Instax Square SQ1 cost?

Again, pricing for the Instax Square SQ1 hasn’t yet been announced – that will likely depend on what features it boasts.

We do know that the Sqaure SQ6 cost £124.99/US$129.95 when it was first released, and now retails for around £104/US$119. Therefore, if features don’t change too dramatically, we don’t expect to see a huge jump from the original RRP of the SQ6.
