AirTag ‘used to stalk Sports Illustrated model’
The model Brooks Nader has revealed, via the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit website, that a stranger tracked her for about five hours during a night out by sneaking an Apple AirTag into her jacket pocket.
The tracking attempt only became apparent when a notification popped up on Nader’s iPhone, informing her that an unknown accessory was moving around with her. Working from that tip-off, she was able to discover the AirTag in her pocket.
“It was the scariest moment ever, and I just want everyone to be aware that this exists,” Nader said. “Watch your belongings and look out for the notification. And check your surroundings.”
Despite a string of high-profile such cases (including this one from December), Apple has said that AirTags are designed to prevent stalking. The notification mentioned in this tale, indeed, is an example of the company’s anti-stalking measures working exactly as they are supposed to, even if Nader nevertheless went through what must have been a highly unsettling experience.
